How Do Patients with Cognitive Impairment Communicate During Discharge Meetings? Evaluation of Participation Using Talking Mats

Dementia is a disorder that is characterized by a decline in cognitive functions. Due to the resulting behavioral changes and reduced capacity to engage in everyday life activities, it is a major cause of dependency among elderly people.

Previous research has pointed out that the progressing impaired communication makes it challenging for the interlocutors to understand what people with cognitive impairment mean, along with making it more difficult for the patients to understand the possible risks and benefits of their different choices. In spite of their eventual communicative and/or cognitive impairments, patients need to make healthcare decisions, and in order to have good compliance and treatment outcomes, it is important to engage the patient in the decision-making process. Colonic Filiform Polyposis in a Patient without Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Filiform polyposis is an uncommon entity manifested by multiple slender worm-like projections, histologically characterized as submucosal fibrovascular accentuation within normal mucosa. The vast majority of cases occur in the setting of inflammatory bowel disease,particularly in patients with ulcerative colitis.

Although esophageal, gastric and intestinal filiform polyps have been described, the colon is the most involved site where the sigmoid colon is the most common location. In the literature, the polyps appear as a few to hundreds. In rare cases, several filiform polyps coalesce, resulting in a tumor-like mass. Although filiform polyposis typically occurs in patients with inflammatory bowel disease, twenty-two cases have previously been documented in patients without inflammatory bowel disease.  Read more>>>>>>>>>>>>>
